Soddy Daisy Wrestlers Win Two

Preparing for the Region 4 duals next week, defending region and state duals champion Soddy Daisy defeated Region1 foes
Greeneville (37-28) and Science Hill (43-18) in a quad meet at the Soddy Daisy Wrestling Arena today.
While the Trojans were 2-0, both Greeneville and Science Hill were 1-1 and McCallie was 0-2.
Soddy Daisy 37, Greeneville 28: Soddy Daisy won the first three matches and six of the first seven to lead, 26-6. The
Green Devils then won four of the next six matches (three pins, one major decision) to pull within five at 33-28 with one
match remaining. Soddy’s Ben Young posted a 13-5 major decision in that final match against Hugo Sanchez to secure
the victory.
Soddy Daisy 43, Science Hill 18: The Trojans took another quick lead, winning five of the first six weights for an 18-6
advantage. The teams split the next six matches and the Trojans, leading 33-18, finished the match with a major decision by
Ben Young at 189 and a fall by Billy Zimmerman at 215 in the final two bouts.
Science Hill 39, McCallie 38: The two teams split the first four matches, followed by the Blue Tornado winning six of
the next seven for a 38-21 lead. The Hilltoppers won the final three matches via forfeits for the win.
Greeneville 42, McCallie 32: The Blue Tornado once again raced to a solid lead (26-12) after eight matches. Greeneville
had four forfeit wins and one fall in the final six matches for the victory.
First Varsity Matches: McCallie’s Daniel McClure (125) won his inaugural varsity match with a 4-2 win against
Science Hill’s Justin Snyder. McCallie’s Tim Westbrooks was 1-1 at 103, falling to Stephen Goldstein (SH),
pinned at 4:22, before posting a major decision against Greeneville’s Brice Herbert, 12-1. Both Tornado wrestlers
are eighth graders.
Fuller Moving Up: Soddy’s Mikey Fuller, 33-2 on the season, won twice today to pass his brother, Ryan, on the
Trojan career wins list. Jake Yost is first (190), followed by John Lane (183), Mikey Fuller (179) and Ryan Fuller (178).
Next Week: Greeneville and Science Hill compete in the four team Region 1 Duals on Tuesday, Red Bank hosts Region 4 duals
(Thursday) and the Region 3 duals are at Cleveland (Friday). McCallie hosts Baylor on Friday (7 p.m.) in the 80th meeting.
McCallie leads 40-39 in a rivalry dating back to 1946.
